Research & Development Engineer (6 Month Assignment)

The Opportunity

Arsenal Medical Inc. currently has an opening for an entry-level Research and Development Engineer to work on the design and development of a novel implantable medical device. The individual we are looking for must thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, be adaptable to work on several aspects of product development and be motivated by the opportunity to learn new technologies. This temporary role is slated for six months and may be extended.

Arsenal Medical, Inc. is transforming medicine through materials science by creating a pipeline of innovative products that improve therapy by treating at the site of injury and disease.  We are multi-disciplinary, working in close collaboration to understand the biology of disease to create solutions that address some of today’s most challenging and unmet medical needs.  Arsenal has created a state-of-the art research and development environment in the Boston metropolitan area.

General Requirements

  • BS/MS in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Co-Op to 3 years Industry experience developing medical devices or combination products
  • Strong preference for vascular implant and /or catheter design experience and familiarly with interventional clinical procedures
  • Knowledge and experience in test method development and execution
  • Strong computer skills using SolidWorks CAD software prototype concepts and drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the US and International standards governing the design, development and manufacture of medical devices is a strong plus
  • Expertise in statistics and data analysis desirable including Minitab software
  • Experience in preclinical studies a plus
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work assignments
  • Collaborative team player who enjoys a dynamic cross-disciplinary environment

Key areas of responsibility

  • Apply sound engineering principles and practices to the design, assembly, and testing of implantable biomaterials-based devices and delivery systems
  • Develop and utilize bench test methods to evaluate performance and characterize the properties of components and complete products
  • Design and develop test fixtures. Provide oversight of suppliers on the design and procurement of tooling and fixtures that aid  in product testing, and/or inspection
  • Write test protocols, execute testing, analyze results, write reports and document development activities in a lab notebook and quality system
  • Assist in the preparation of scientific/engineering papers, grant applications, invention disclosures and patents
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of preclinical studies
  • Maintain familiarity with relevant engineering literature and state of the art techniques
  • Execute product development activities to timelines
  • Collaborate with Quality to ensure compliance to appropriate ISO/FDA regulations for the design and manufacture of medical products

Must be able to analyze / synthesize data and communicate issues, findings, processes and ideas in a clear, concise, technically-proficient manner.
